Dress right this winter

Being outside should be fun, and that's when it's important to wear the right clothes. When it's cold outside, it's good to dress according to the layer-on-layer principle, this means that you keep the heat better and that you can easily adjust your body temperature by putting on or taking off one of the layers. There are no magical garments that keep you warm alone when it's really cold, but you need to dress in layers upon layers, both on the upper body and on the lower body.

Layer 1: The inner layer

The inner layer is the garment that you wear closest to your body. The clothes should be soft, stretchy and tight. The inner layer should absorb and transport moisture and excess heat from the body out to an absorbent layer further out. The inner layer helps you stay dry and warm.

Layer 2: The middle layer

The middle layer is an insulating layer, the insulation comes from the air that the material contains. A garment that is airy insulates better than a compact garment because the garment binds more air. By changing the middle layer to a more or less airy garment, you can regulate the heat with simple means.

Layer 3: The outer layer

The outer layer should protect your body against the elements and should therefore be water and wind resistant. The outer layer thus protects against water and cold coming from the outside while helping to retain heat in the insulating middle layer.

Dress warmly on the upper body

We recommend

Inner layer: Valencia Base layer or Havana.

Middle layer : Brooklyn or Etna Zip shirt .

The outer layer: Chelsea jacket. Feel free to combine with Bormio Vest.

It is on the upper body that we sweat the most in connection with physical activity, it is therefore especially important to remember the inner layer so that the sweat does not make you wet and cold. Our base layer Valencia is a perfect inner layer for the upper body. Our new addition Havana is also an option, as it transports moisture away and keeps you dry.

"Over the base layer, you should have a sweater that insulates. The more air the sweater can trap, the warmer you will be able to keep yourself. Our hoodies Brooklyn and Anna Zip Shirt trap air and are perfect for cold days. If it’s really cold outside, you may need to dress in double insulating layers. Our vest Bormio is perfect to wear between the insulating layer and the jacket. It helps you stay warm against your body while maintaining mobility around the shoulders and arms."

On top of the insulating layer, you need a garment that resists water and wind, our Chelsea jacket is both wind and water repellent and is therefore excellent as an outer layer. In really cold weather, we recommend that you have a supplementary outer layer on the outside of the jacket when doing stable work, you can then take the supplementary outer layer off when you are warmed up on the horse's back.

In addition to this, we also recommend that you wear a hat and scarf when it's cold, to keep the heat you create. For example Oulu Beanie and Kiruna Scarf

Dress warmly on the lower body

We recommend

The inner layer: Underpants .

The Middle Layer: Winter Riding Leggings Teddy or Winter Riding Breeches Fleece. For competition, we recommend Competition Leggings Teddy.

The outer layer: A windproof and preferably water-repellent garment.

Although most people do not sweat as much on the lower body as on the upper body, it is important that we also work here with the layer-on-layer principle to create insulation by building in air.

The inner layer of the lower body should be soft, stretchy and tight. We recommend that you use our Underpants closest to the body. They are made in Italy with the finest material, which is also Italian produced.

On top of the inner layer, you need something insulating, we recommend our Winter Riding Leggings Teddy or Winter Riding Pants Fleece, which are designed in a soft and airy material with an inside of teddy and teddy-fleece that traps a lot of air and serves as a good mid-layer as it keeps you warm. During less cold dark evenings, Reflective leggings are perfect for being a little more visible in traffic. Please note that you should use more reflectors.

"The outer layer on the lower body is recommended to be a windproof and water-repellent garment."

We hope that this guide will help you to keep warm in the stable with layers on layers in principle, in order to fully enjoy this beautiful time of the year.
