Get to know London Hybrid Leggings
We look back to when we spoke with Julia, the designer behind the London Hybridleggings, and got an insight into the thoughts and vision behind these innovative hybrid riding leggings. Even now, in 2026, we are just as proud of the design that combines style, comfort, and function – a favorite in our breeches collection.
Can you tell us a bit about your vision when you started designing the hybrid riding leggings?
"Absolutely! When we started working on the hybrid riding leggings, our main goal was to create a garment that combines the best of both worlds – the classic style of traditional breeches and the superior comfort of modern leggings. I wanted to create something that not only looked good but also allowed riders to feel free and comfortable in the saddle.
Those who pay attention can see that the details and cut of the breeches closely resemble our previous breeches model "Miami." I think Miami is by far the most stylish breech in our range, but the material has been too stiff to achieve the perfect fit – the sturdier material didn’t quite suit our target audience. To avoid losing the design entirely, as I really love its aesthetic, I have continued to develop it to create a completely new breech that I believe fits our target audience much better. Our Ohio riding leggings are the most popular model among our customers thanks to their fit. So the vision when we started the project was to take Miami’s sleek details and combine them with the perfect fit from Ohio.
That sounds fantastic! Can you tell us a bit more about the process of developing a new model?
"You have to start by setting a clear vision, just like I mentioned earlier where we took a nice pair of breeches and turned it into something as comfortable as a pair of leggings. After that, it’s important to identify the target group, and in this case, I have focused on our Ohio-loving customers. I know that fit and comfort are crucial for this group, and I wanted to create a pair of pants that was as comfortable as their favorite leggings but suited for when they want to feel a bit more dressed up. When it comes to material, it is crucial for fit and feel. The material in Ohio is fantastic, and I based the development of the hybrid riding leggings on its properties. To get additional compression and a more luxurious feel, the material in London is a bit thicker than Ohio, but with the same fantastic composition and properties.
The process from idea to possible launch usually takes about 1.5 years, longer than you might think, but there is a lot that has to come together. Working with new materials requires precision when it comes to fit and size guide, which is the most time-consuming. To ensure the fit, I usually involve some of our most loyal customers to test the new sizes and gather feedback."
What do you think of them yourself?
"Personally, I am overwhelmed by the result, haha! With the wide waistband and the snug fit, I actually think they turned out fantastic. I truly believe we will be able to attract our loyal Ohio customers to try this new model.
It's always a bit tricky when you have such an established model as Ohio, which has been a favorite among our customers for so many years. I have really kept these customers in mind when developing the hybrid riding leggings, and I am so excited to hear their reactions to the fit. I know many have asked for a more dressed-up leggings model where they can also wear a belt, so I believe these leggings will meet their expectations in every way."
