The journey through time with Teddyleggings—from 2021 to today
When we began developing our Teddy Leggings, the goal was clear: to create a pair of truly warm riding leggings for cold days, without compromising freedom of movement and flexibility.
The work began as early as 2021, and the first model was launched in 2023. Since then, Teddy Leggings have evolved year by year, largely based on the feedback we have received from those of you who actually use them. We have read reviews, collected comments, and sent out surveys to understand both what you love and what could be even better.
2023 – first generation Teddy Leggings
In 2023, we launched our first Teddy Leggings. We had finally found a material that was thick and warm enough for truly cold days, while still being soft and flexible enough for riding.
The first model had a high waist with a drawstring, two phone pockets, and was available with both full-seat and knee patches. To keep the trousers as flexible as possible, we chose not to have a seam around the knee patch.
The teddy lining ended just below the knee. The main idea was for the trousers to be thin at the bottom and easily fit into existing riding boots.
After the first winter, one thing became very clear: the material was exactly right. Many described the trousers as very warm and comfortable. However, the waist was too soft and floppy, which made the trousers easily slide down.
We also received a lot of feedback about the length of the teddy lining. Once the thigh and knee were properly protected from the cold, the unlined calf felt all the colder.
2024 – focus on fit
Going into 2024, we therefore knew that the teddy material itself would remain. The focus instead was on improving the fit.
We added a seam across the upper part of the knee patch. When trousers consist of more panels, it becomes easier to shape the garment to the body and create a better fit. At the same time, we chose to add the seam only where it made the greatest difference, since a thick winter material also means sturdier seams.
The waist underwent a much more significant change. Since many of our customers appreciate the fit of our Ohio Leggings, we used the same type of high waistband as a starting point and complemented it with a wide elastic band on the inside.
At the same time, the teddy lining was extended down to just above the ankle. The very bottom part of the leg was kept thinner so the trousers would still be flexible under riding boots.
We also added belt loops and introduced children's sizes.
Feedback after the season showed that we had solved one problem but created another. The trousers now stayed in place much better, but the waistband instead felt too hard and rigid. Some customers even had to fold down the waist to make it comfortable.
However, the response to the longer teddy lining was clear: it was here to stay.
2025 – when the fit fell into place
Ahead of 2025, almost all development work focused on finding the right balance in the waistband.
Fit changes take time. A new sample must be made, tested, used, and evaluated before the next adjustment can be made. One year between two winter seasons is therefore considerably shorter than it may sound.
After several rounds of testing, we finally found the combination of waistband height and elasticity that we were happy with. In fact, it was a close call whether production would be finished in time for the launch.
The longer teddy lining, belt loops, and seam over the knee patch were kept.
At the same time, we expanded the collection with more colours and launched Teddy Leggings in blue and brown as well.
A completely new detail was the sewn-in reflective bands in the phone pockets. They could easily be pulled out when it started getting dark, making the rider more visible during the winter months.
And this time, the response was something completely different.
We received especially positive comments about the fit and felt that we had finally got it right.
The recurring detail that could still be improved was the reflective bands. They were sometimes perceived as slightly too long and could bunch up in the pockets.
2026 – the small details that complete the whole
For 2026, we no longer needed to make any major changes to the basic model.
Instead, we have been able to focus on the details.
The reflective band is now only in the left phone pocket and has been made shorter so it sits better when not in use.
This year's model is available in black, blue, and green. The black model has also been expanded to include three leg lengths: Short, Regular, and Long.
We have also updated the leggings with our new logo and our new signature grip.
For the youngest riders, we have also developed a separate junior model with a slightly simpler design adapted for smaller children.
Developed together with you
Today's Teddy Leggings are the result of several years of development, testing, and, above all, feedback from our customers.
Some changes have been significant, such as the design of the waistband and the length of the teddy lining. Others involved a few centimetres added to a reflective band or an extra seam to help the leggings follow the body more closely.
What they have in common is that almost every change is based on how the leggings actually perform when used in the stable and in the saddle.
The work began as early as 2021. Five years later, we feel that we have found the combination we had been looking for all along: truly warm riding leggings that are also flexible, supple, and comfortable to ride in.
Teddy Leggings 2026 are therefore not just this year's model. They are the result of all the models that came before them.
